What a journey it’s been at The Business Backer: From start-up to nearly $400MM funded, from a dozen to over 100 employees, and from a boot-strapped, cottage business to being a part of an NYSE-listed company, all in nine short years.
And we’re not done growing.
And with that journey comes another milestone: a new space to accommodate our current and future growth. On Monday, April 25, we officially moved into our new home. We are thrilled to share our brand new, A+ professional environment with you.
This is the culmination of an effort that began in the waning, wintry days of 2014. Frosty building tours were followed by months and months of building selection, lease negotiations, space planning, seat mapping, furniture and equipment purchases, sign design, demolition, construction, and then the final touches to turn a building into a home. TBB employees led or contributed to this effort, and it was finished off the last few days with our fantastic TBB move team picking us up, moving us, and placing us all neatly into our seats – ready to keep providing our customers and partners with world class service.
Why Here? We are proud of our Cincinnati roots and identify with the area’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, thriving small business community, and Midwestern values. We started here in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash as a small, ambitious team, and staying here in Blue Ash as a vibrant, thriving business was a natural next step in the journey.
What’s Here? A dramatic building. A beautiful entrance, with the TBB logo framed by our awards. An open plan, high-ceiling, modern environment. Large windows. Huddle and conference rooms. Brand new, state-of-the-art furniture. Clean and bright break rooms. Outdoor patios. And downstairs, a large kitchen and cantina.
Why Open Plan Design? We designed our space to foster our collaborative, team approach to finding innovative solutions for our small business customers. Every TBB colleague is in an open-plan desk setting – no one has an office. We want everyone in the business, from the longest serving veteran to the most recently arrived and from the most junior to the President, to be visible and accessible. At the same time, we designed plenty of huddle rooms and conference rooms for when we need meetings, calls, or just a quiet corner to crank out some thinking. It’s a great combination of openness and practicality.
What Does It All Mean? Our new home is a step in a long and winding journey; it’s not a destination. Our new home was earned through hard work, great decisions, personal accountability and customer focus. That work, decisions, accountability and customer focus will continue; we’re just doing all that now in a really great place.
